Then a follow-up question for the experts ...

Lets say i simply fly the cheapest fares within Australia on whatever domestic carrier. However, i will still be flying to the US/Europe every few months. I guess i could stick with UA for my international trips. But what other carriers have good FFP's with a reasonable route map for someone based in oz that i should be tempting to switch to?

I know this may be a bit like asking "what is the best color in the rainbow?". But opinions from those with experience would be valued.
