The standby list can sometimes be misleading. If anyone is trying to standby for flight A and already has a ticket on flight B, but don't even up getting on, they will transfer the whole list to flight B. So even though someone may already have a confirmed seat on flight B, they could be listed again on standby for flight B. Hence, while once they call standbys, everyone seems to disappear.
