I have a lot of miles too, but I'd definitely pay the $100. I've been using my "excess" miles to fly friends & family to vist us in Europe this year.

For me it's a pretty easy choice: 50K miles or dig into my own pocket to pay about 2 grand to fly my mother in law over (while I am away on a business trip of course)
