The miles are only devaluing when award availability tightens or redemption levels go up, so I'm not sure how they are losing value daily. If you're relating the miles value to what it would otherwise cost to buy a ticket for cash, then FF miles aren't devaluing at all, actually. A year ago, a 25K transcon award might've replaced a $300 ticket. Today, that ticket might cost in the neighborhood of $450? (MR's and hot deals aside, and my numbers could be off because I don't reside in the lower 48)

But if you have tons of miles, then it may not make much sense to pay the redeposit fee.
