In fact, does one clear at MEX or PVR? JFK terminal/lounge issues not important, nor is the return itinerary, just the westbound issues. Guidance appreciated...
You will clear immigration and customs in MEX and be dropped in the unsecure area of the terminal. From there you will need to go upstairs and reclear security for your connecting flight. This is the same for DL and AM as both are in the same terminal - Terminal 2, which is brand new and very nice.

One thing to keep in mind is that the JFK-MEX segment on DL is medallion-upgrade elligible. You don't list your status, so I'm not sure if that affects you. And, with kids, maybe you can't take the upgrade anyway.

As for service, I think the two are about the same. You get a meal on both, and it's usually pasta or chicken on both. On DL you get one free adult beverage with your meal. On AM, alcohol is free all the time (but they don't really come through after the meal service with more beverages, so you'd have to go ask for more if you wanted it). With DL you might get an AVOD-equipped plane. AM has overhead movies only.

Any other questions? I was a regular on the JFK-MEX route for awhile and have been on DL and AM. I've also been to PVR, if you need any info on that.
