Basically, the hotel was better than I expected based on the comments here. In my opinion, the view of the Falls supersedes the downsides. And for the once every decade visit, it's worth the price.

Glad to know that you had some good experiences with this one.
The quality of the room and bed are my biggest complaints for the price of the hotel. The carpet is a bit worn.
Like I said if I have to pay that much I'll just spend a bit more at the casino resort.
I stayed in the following hotels during this trip:
Sheraton Centre Toronto, Sheraton Gateway Toronto Airport, Embassy Suites
Fallsview and Homewood Suites Markham.
The bed at the Embassy Suites was the worst among them. Especially that I got free upgrades at both Sheratons as Platinum member. I really felt the difference. Also the attitude of the Hilton employees in both hotels was also not so friendly knowing that we were paying with points. That was not the case for both Sheratons.
Of course I would have gotten better treatment if I spent thousands in cash like you did. But my entire trip only cost me about $1200 USD for two. That included 2 round trip tickets in business class, a nice rental car(Volvo), some expensive dinners, and two bottles of ice wine To me the best value at the Niagra Falls was the Maid in the Mist.
I am a very value-oriented person and I really feel that Hilton Diamond members do not get as much value as Marriott Platinum and Sheraton Platinum. After this trip I would definitely give more consideration to Marriott and Sheraton hotels.
Botoom line is if you want to be treated with respect at this hotel you got to pay cash instead of points. Especially during the summer. Then, what's the point of earning "Hilton points"?
