thank you!
I'd be happy to have $300 for coach these days. I've been making a few trips to NY for work the past two years, always booked 30 days or more out and including a Saturday night stay. The fare has risen from $330 the first trip last June to $561 for next month's trip.

VX (Virgin America) has reasonably priced first class seats between SFO-JFK, but they are way more than $300 round trip, and have increased pretty consistently since they started flying last summer. I'd probably take them if all I did was two NY trips every year, but I fly enough personally to make PLT on AA and enjoy the added benefits even if I have to fly in Y some of the time. (Plus work wouldn't pay the F rate and it seems more complicated to upgrade using my own funds than it does to buy stickers on AA with my own CC or spend miles).
