Interesting. After the 'Capital-to-Capital Connection' campaign that unexpectedly led to UA winning the IAD-PEK route authority, the DOT mentioned in their award that UA's 744 on the route was a factor in their decision since it would result in more capacity than the original favorite, CO's EWR-PEK submission on a 777.
UA briefly used the 777 on IAD-PEK in 2007/08 winter.
