Few years back I had canceled one passport because I thought that I had lost it. Then I used it on around the world trip.

Later when I was trying to travel from Helsinki from Tallinn on a ferry I was stopped at the Estonian immigration at the harbor and sent back to Finland.

This just thought me that at least before Schengen integration there was very little data exchange between various countries.
