ouch
Hello,
I used to work next door to the department Tiffany Antoine works at... I am familiar with your situation and it's a very complicated one... let me see if I can put some light into this.
Booking another airline is not going to be an option when you are involved in an advanced schedule change. The airlines need to change the schedule around due to many factors and sometimes even factors that are out of their control. To protect themself from losing revenue they will prohibit you from exchanging your ticket over to another airline at their cost... as a matter of fact the airlines will block and deny every request that is going to cost them money other then refunding your ticket... these r basic airline rules :-(. The only time you can LEGALLY demand to be protected on another airline is when the airline failed to carry you to your destination within 90minutes of the original departure time due to a circumstance they control (IE performance issues like mechanics or stuff like that) and that only applies if the failure to carry occurs within 24hours of departure.
Honestly Tiffany wouldn't know where exactly that paragraph is within the contract of carriage. Since you can find a copy on the web site you would have to talk to Online Customer Care and I doubt even they can POINT out the exact paragraph... Maybe I can though... hold please
