We stayed last Saturday (6/22). The hotel was very busy. I was expecting at least an upgrade to the lower fallsview rooms as a Diamond member.
However, we were given a corner room on the lowest level (10F). I asked the front desk and offered to pay cash for an upgrade, a young woman told me they were "sold out" on fallsview rooms. After check-in, I checked online and found out they have plenty of fallsview rooms available though the bed type is two-queen instead of 1 king. I then called again and asked if we could pay cash for an "upgrade". She asked someone and told me the upgrade would cost me $375(which is even more expensive than booking a new room online). She was very firm and stated "The Hotel is 95% full".
I was quite upset but tried to hold my temper so that I wouldn't ruin my vacation. I kept thinking why they would rather leave those rooms unoccupied.

There is no way I would pay $375 plus tax for a room in this hotel. The quality of the room is no better than an ordinary Embassy Suites
The hotel is also ridiculously expensive. The Starbucks downstairs charges a whopping $4.19 for a bagel, the highest I've ever seen.
Food prices are much more reasonable near the Clifton Hills, which is about a mile away. We also avoided the Keg for dinner as it would have probably been another rip-off. We ate at an Italian restaurant in the Casino for dinner.

If I really wanted the view I would have booked a room at the Niagara Fallsview Casino Resort. While it is a bit more expensive but you can really get more value for the money.

The manager's reception consisted of some really cheap stuffs like pretzels, carrot sticks, and a free drink. I'd rather get some real foods than free alcohol.

Based on the reviews, I should have booked either the Hilton or Hampton Inn North(just a quiet and nice place to stay), or paid cash for the Casino Resort. Either of the three should be better than the ES.
