my opinion - I think that AA will be around for a while. I think it's in better shape than some of the other major carriers, and if something really bad were to happen to AA, chances are:
1) it would happen to other major carriers first
2) we would have a lot of advance notice (i.e. years)
3) for valuable, high-revenue business travellers such as yourself, someone will be vying for your continued business - likely in the form of honoring your AA miles
in the case that you somehow lose your status/miles (highly doubtful) - probably everyone else will too.
I agree, it's all down to who runs out of money first. AA has more $ than UA and management has been taking this crisis head-on( first with first bag fee) while UA seems to be following or floundering. UAs going thru money faster than a manic coke head in vegas Tilton's like Nero
