Both a/c type fly to both SFO and LAX (LAX also has 767 via some of the pacific islands - not as good due to the middle of the night transit stop).

Between AKL & ADL most likely A320, but could also be 767.

Transfer at LAX heading to NZ is not very good. NZ uses T2 which is opposite T6/7/8 (quickest is to take the footpath by Encounters across, easiest is to walk around the "U" at the upper level). Security queues at T2 in the evening can be looong. Going the other way immigration at LAX seems to be quick for americans, painfully slow for aliens.

Transfer at SFO is in my experience easier. If *G miss out on the nice NZ lounge at LAX though (NZ uses RCC at SFO).
