We did look at flights from JFK via other spots when the initial delay happened but didn't think to consider taking a cab to LGA for options from there. We had a couple of checked bags and thought that'd put the kibosh on it.

As for not going out of LGA, we flew in here last night and stayed over. The early flight suited us pretty well.

Editted to say: The good news is the flight is going ahead at "2.15pm", just got paged in the FL and handed our original boarding passes back. They'll let us know when we're boarding. Good job as I was just getting really sick of those spring rolls in the chilli sauce!
