On my flight last night IAD-GRU UA 861 ALL the seats in Business class had the controls for the lumbar support and back massage completely covered over by a permanent plastic cover. When I asked the Purser about it he mentioned that since they are eventually upgrading all of the C cabins they are no longer fixing items that break on the old seats.

This really makes the C class seat uncomfortable for me and putting an extra pillow (if I can find one) behind my back to provide extra support on a 10 hour flight is less than ideal. Has anyone else experienced this new 'enhancement' on other wide body aircraft?

Just to be clear these permanent covers over the lumbar controls where applied to the entire C Cabin.
