I recently had this hassle with EVA at LAX. My second time flying LAX-TPE in the past few months. Last time was fine. This time they weighed my carry-on (12kg) and told me to check-it. This was a $7k ticket in PL and I told them that the policy was a joke. I've (1) never had a carry on weighed for Business/First before on any carrier, and (2) 7kg is a ridiculous limit. They told me that the limit is the same for all travel classes. It's not a new rule and they dont understand why my bad wasnt weighed in March.
I went through the usual argument that it doesnt way any more or any less if its in the cabin or in the hold. It's cabin size and they should just let it go. They refused, I asked for a supervisor and argued a little more. Eventually they let me go with it. I'll write to EVA about it, but if I dont get a satisfactory response (and I'm not holding my breath) I will never fly them again.
You'd think that they wouldnt want to lose high yield passengers in PL based upon whether a 12kg bag is in the cabin or in the hold!
