Irrespective of your flight, the aircraft needs to return with the scheduled westbound passengers. To answer your question, no.
Each aircraft operations consists of 3 separate but related movements:
1) movement of passengers from point a to point b,
2) movement of crew from point a to point b,
3) movement of the aircraft from point a to point b
canceling any flight will involve ripple effects in all 3 of those schedules, and most airlines want to avoid that
