And, as others have stated, no, flights do not get canceled at the last minute for light loads.
Airlines do not canceled for loads. At that late point they have paid over 1/2 the expense, only fuel is left. Not to mention it wrecks havoc with routing, crews and maintenance.
What confuses people and this happened to me in PHX once.
A 737 PHX to DEN was broken and the flight was booked full. Instead of canceling that flight thy canceled my ELP flight because it had 25 people on it. So they switched Aircraft, what made this bad were the gates where right next to each other so it was obvious what was going on. Now the ELP people where all claiming that it was canceled because of a poor load. It may be a nuance but it was canceled because of a broken plane and then they canceled the most beneficial to the airline flight.
But to just cancel it because of LF doesn't happen.
