I'd say something like this: I was traveling on PNR xxxxxx. Due to a mechanical problem I was rebooked on an alternate route. I am requesting ORIGINAL ROUTING MILES (including MQM) for my itinerary. Thank you.

The only time I ever had a problem is when I did not make "SkyMiles" the primary subject of my email. Initially I got a disappointing answer from DL. But I re-sent my request with "SkyMiles" as my primary subject.
Exactly! Once you have it, fax the BP's, PNR, and letter to 404 715 9220. They normally respond by posting the miles within 24 hours. Good luck and report back what happens!
