Uh, yeah, I had checked EF and knew that the day didn't look good, even the redeye. Worse still, I have a connection at IAD to another 2.5 hr flight, which complicated things a bit. At first the GA refused to even consider me for a VDB, but I went up a second time and assured her I was in no rush.

In the end, I did drag myself back to SFO today. I'm still puzzled. First ticket agent I spoke to in person, who seemed very knowledgeable, said that he could see my rez just fine, but had no authority or ability to change my seats or add me to the UG list because the flight was already "under gate control" -- 14 hours before departure, on the day before departure. Um, right.

I walked around the ticketing area in thoughtful circles for about 10 minutes before approaching the desk again, and saw they'd changed agents. This agent said that he had no idea what the first one was talking about, changed my seats, and gave me new BPs. And added me to the UG list. And apologized that in the 10 hours that various agents had been wringing their hands and making excuses, C inventory had dropped from 6 to 0 and NC had dropped from 4 to 0. Kinda what I was trying to avoid.

As my chief philosopher WtP says, Oh Bother.

10 hours to go, new flight stands at F0 C0 Y2.
