Update - tickets still valid, first flight in 5 days
So . . . Amex and AC are fully aware of the situation, yet I haven't heard (and, due to security/privacy issues, do not expect to hear) anything specific on how the investigation(s) are proceeding.

But . . . both itin's are still available for review/changes on AC.com via their locators and my new friends' surnames.

Anyone on AC32 out of PEK on June 25? Please let me know if anything interesting happens at boarding. I wonder if AC is keeping the tickets in play to catch the people involved?
