Do you have travel insurance? Some funds will put in some money for rerouting or similar expenses if your travel arrangements to certain 'significant events' go pear-shaped.

In which case I would start finding out how much you may be covered for, then madly scramble for rerouting and cancellation credits, even considering alternative carriers.
