With a bit of segment resequencing, it should be possible to avoid the extra flight:
STL-SXM-JFK-YYZ-MIA-LHR can become STL-MIA-SXM-JFK-YYZ-LHR
This would mean using BA back from YYZ and hence losing some AA miles, but there's not much choice unless the OP can do the STL-SXM by Sept. 2nd.
