Not quite. For those of us who fill the tank before returning to avoid the extortion, this just shifts the extortion from a per-gallon charge to a fixed charge. And if you only need a gallon or two or three, you'll actually pay
more under the new policy!
Hertz is not doing us any favors here; there still screwing many of their customers, just in a different way. If they really want to do something customer-focused, Hertz would charge the same as the lot down the street. They will still make a profit on those gas sales while offering their customers the convenience of not having to make an additional stop to refuel. It's a win-win, which is why I suspect they'll never do it.
