I stay here probably about 5-6 nights a month (my company is near by). The staff is always helpful and friendly -- and doesn't mind my need for a couple back up wake-up calls. In fact, it is nice to see a hotel with LIVE wake-up calls (that's right -- a human calls you). The location is prime -- right near the stadiums, rock and roll hall of fame, and several other attractions. If you are coming in for a weekend though, note that the city is pretty dead. However, if you walk out the hotel through the back door (near the Italian wine bar) there is a street directly across the way with tons of cafes, shops and restaurants (and even a trendy bowling alley).
The rooms are oddly shaped, but excellent. I highly recommend any of the X15 rooms -- as they are larger than the rest with a long hallway leading to the bathroom. These only have king beds. Be aware -- any X00 room is right next to the elevators. They are loud!
The beds are especially soft and have a great set of down comforters on them as well as a 6 pack of assorted pillows -- most are down as well. The TV is just your standard tube set -- but works well and gets about 40 channels.
The 1890 lounge is highly recommended. The burger ($12) is great; the fries are great - and the Mexican chicken rolls ($10) are to die for. I highly recommend the roasted pear dessert ($8) that comes with pecans and dulce de letche ice cream. It is topped with a red-wine/raspberry sauce that is fantastic. If you want to eat something fancier -- try the 1890 restaurant. If you have a chance to get the weekend breakfast buffet -- go for it. It is a steal at $21. Go for the pastries first...they are amazing as the hotel has it's own in-house pastry chef.
The shops in the 'arcade' (a historic mall attached to the hotel) are mostly closed on weekends and evenings. However, on the second level (same as lobby) one of the shops doubles as a gym -- and contains very nice equipment. If you don't want to pay the ridiculous fee for internet -- head down to the basement. In the lowest level that has the 'business center' as well as banquet halls. You will find free (compliments of one of the shops above) wi-fi. A starbucks is also located in the newstand of the main hallway of the arcade that not only has coffee for the morning -- but some of the delicious pastries from the hotel. The Croissants are by far the best I have had.
The only thing I would change? The valet. They are nice people, but slow (always give them 20 minutes to get your car...even though the ticket says 15) and ridiculously priced ($22/day). If you are trying to save a buck or two, come in from I-90 from the side of the water....right next door to the hotel is a parking structure that only charges $10 a day. If you are arriving especially late, be prepared to just park and go inside. I have arrived after 1AM a couple times now and the valet attendant is asleep at his desk.
Hope this helps!

If you are in town, I highly recommend the Regency over the HP in Independence. Although the HP is nice, it lacks in service and location.
