Status miles are just that, and they should count towards Elite status. Status sweeps are usually done every Sunday, so assuming these points just posted, the Aeroplan site will show your Elite status next week. You should then receive an email to select your package for this year.

The nice part of this, is that you will also receive Elite status for next year as well!

Points are counted based on the date of flight, not based on when they post, so holding the BPs for next year won't matter...but given my point above there would be no need anyway.
