never happened to me, but thanks for telling the story.

hopefully you're right--they'll start enforcing the carry-on rule now. i'm really good about only carrying two items on, and frankly it chaps me when i see people who have more (i'm a woman. i'd LOVE to have a third item, which in my case would be a purse). ^ to the ga for having the guy follow the rules.
