Well, there have been plenty of threads on these new fees, so specifically on the sub-topic of airline hatred...
Once you get past the PR hit the airlines take when they first announce these fees, the other problem is when most of these are collected: day of travel. If the Kettle's pay a high fare, they may grumble about it, but when they arrive at their destination to see the grandkids and are asked "how was the flight", that's long forgotten. But if they've just that day had to pay the extra for the bags with little Timmy's presents, and then had to pay to buy water so Grandma Kettle could take her pills on mid-flight, that's all fresh in their minds.
The article makes a great point about safety, but the problem is that the airlines have done such a good job here, that most of us never think about it. I can't even remember the last time I got off a plane thinking, "well, nice to have arrived safely". It's just a given.
