Can a thin person buy two seats? (for ONE traveler)

I've seen a lot of threads about large people buying two coach seats for themselves, but I've never seen a discussion about a thin person buying two seats just for the extra comfort.

I only fly domestically in the US a few times a year, but when I do, I try to fly F as much as possible by searching for good deals (Y-UP fares, F class on discount airlines like Air Tran and Sun Country, etc.). Alas, I will probably soon have to fly to a city that is ONLY served by CRJs with no F class. If they were ERJs, I would be happy with a single seat on the left side of the plane, but CRJs have a 2-2 layout, and I just prefer not to be squashed against other people. (I already do that every day on the Tokyo subways.)

So I was thinking of buying two tickets for myself and getting adjacent seats on a CRJ. Would I, as a thin person, get lots of weird or negative reactions from airline staff? I'm thinking of situations like overbooking, where I fear the airline will pressure me to give up my second seat (and I can imagine plenty of passengers giving me dirty looks). Or upon boarding, I can just see the FA trying to rearrange everyone to accommodate a family traveling together and demanding I let someone sit in my adjacent seat.

And would I get the dreaded secondary screening at security? Would they flag a two-ticket passenger as some kind of security risk?

Anyone else here ever done this?
