$6000? A lot of 1Ks here are 3500 and under would be my guess. UA never has and never will profit from those. I believe the loss of revenue from those petulant few who go away because Mileage Plus is no longer a profit center for them will be more than made up by firming up yields a little and making Mileage Plus a contributer to profit at the airline.
And all that blathering about loyalty is so patently nonsensical... they run, or threaten to, at the first percieved slight to their perceived entitlement. It is heartening that frequency programs are no longer rolling over for the gasbags in forums like this and hopefully UA will hold the line just as Starwood did, protecting the viability of the program.
Have you noticed all that blissful silence over in the Starwood forum after it turned out the bloviators and the braggarts didn't get their way! What a joy that forum is to visit at the moment given all that quietness!
FF programs can only survive if they serve the overall strategy of the company, this they cannot do with unlimited giveaways to virtually non-revenue patrons (I know there are some real revenue generators on FT, no offense to them, but most of the hot air is coming from those who contribute least to the bottom line).
