Refund on a voucher/paid ticket?

Hi All,

I'm bumping my head against the wall after speaking to SMS, and was hoping to get some outside opinions as to whether I am being unreasonable...

I had a $200 bump voucher that was going to expire this past March. I knew I'd be going to Vegas later this year (no other trips planned), but didn't know when. So I purchased a refundable first class ticket to Vegas for $500, paying the balance with my credit card.

I've now settled on the dates I am traveling, so called to change the ticket to a non-refundable coach roundtrip. New trip fare = $400.

The agent refused to credit my card back for the $100 difference, saying they had to issue a voucher since the original was a part-voucher ticket. They transfered me to a customer service specialist who told me the same thing. This makes no sense to me. I'm still taking a flight worth more than $200, and I don't see why the full $200 voucher should not apply to it. I paid $300 in cash for the right to a refundable fare, and now can't get back the $100 fare difference. The only reason I booked a refundable fare was to have the flexibility to change into another date, and now I am essentially being told the refundable fare I purchased is not really refundable. I suppose I could just take the voucher but I have concerns over what the expiration date will be as the original would have expired by now, and not sure I will be flying delta for personal travel again this year.

Am I crazy for thinking I'm entitled to cash not a voucher here?? Any advice on another approach to take?

Thanks much,

Jon
