Did you not read the OP's posts? Perhaps you are the one that needs things spelled out for you.
Indeed, I very much doubt the OP knew that he had to be at the gate 20 minutes prior because he said that the plane ready to leave at 8pm was a "story". If you were told that the plane was ready to leave at the gate cutoff time, would you think of that as a "story"? AC appears to have extended the courtesy to him by waiting for him past 8pm when he should have been at the gate at that time.
The only evidence the OP has given about him being late is that he saw the plane taxi away. At best, that is inconclusive of him knowing (or not) whether he had to be 20 minutes prior but I do not give him the benefit of the doubt.
The only relevance here is the OP's knowledge (or lack thereof) of the cutoff times, not the knowledge of "most if not all people".
