I saw this on the Dallas Morning News
AIRLINE BIZ blog:
"Rental car company Hertz has revamped its refueling policy to take some of the pain out the pump for those customers who returned without buying a whole tank of gas or filling up the car beforehand.
Starting July 1, customers who need to top off their tank will now pay a $6.99 service fee, plus whatever the market price is for the gas.
Previously, Hertz charged about $7.99 per gallon for last minute fill-ups.
Hertz customers who agree to pay for an entire tank of gas when they pick up the car will pay 15 cents less than the market price per gallon.
Hertz uses the "Oil Price Information Service" to determine the "market price."
Officials for Hertz said customers wanted a more streamlined return process with market-based fuel prices.
"By revamping our refueling program to reflect market-rate prices, we've made it immeasurably easier for customers to return their rental car quickly and without the hassle of making a time-consuming trip to refuel the car prior to return," said Mark P. Frissora, Hertz's chairman and chief executive."
