Passenger Manifest

I think that the original reason (pre-deregulation) for the passenger's name on the air ticket was to provide identification of the passenger or passenger remains in case of emergency, accident, crash, or some such.

In this regard, the listing of the passenger name on the manifest was akin to a ship's manifest upon sailing.
