It is a right pain now, trying to fuel up a car over there, now that my CC is no longer accepted at the pump.

So like BAGoldBoy I send SWMBO in, but we don’t bother trying to give them a CC, just cold hard cash.

As far a filling up a rental car before return, I’ve just given up on that altogether & buy the tank of fuel at pickup. That way I don’t have to worry about filling the tank & just return the car whatever way the tank is.

Way less stressful
