Folks Schengen in Austria has curerntly been lifted for European Cup purposes. This is to try and reduce the number of Hooligans (no matter what nationality) getting to the European Cup. The Austrians have asked all countries around it to take a closer look. Believe it or not many Hooligans actually arrive wearing suites so that the border officers don't catch on to them.

True many german police officers only have very basic foreign language skills BUT then their job discription doesn't require any more than it does from any other cop from any other country in the world. You are just lucky that in Germany when things get hot the cops are required to get you an interpreter before they even ask you one question other than your name and what languages you speak.
