Most 22 inchers will fail in at least one dimension -- a couple of mine do. In part, the manufacturers report the size of the box, not the size of the box including wheels and handles. Yet the sizer includes both wheels and handles..
Will be keep checking this thread for your report! The Tumi is significantly wider -- 15 3/4 vs. 14 for most of the 20-22s. According to the BA chart, you've got about 17 1/2 on width, so maybe that's where Tumi does it's magic if it really does. It's amazing how much luggage one accumulates over the years conforming to the various rule changes!

You're absolutely right about the phony non-wheel dimensions you get from the manufacturers.

For what it's worth, I think the 20 might even fit the AA MD 80s AB side without going in sideways. That would be a nice added attraction!
