I would stick with the 20". There has been a couple of times when I have had my 22" roll board and been stopped at T4 Fastrack- with the wheels it does not quite fit the guide. Its more likely that BAA will stop you than BA. I was allowed through each time but I have seen them send other passengers back to check-in.
I was doing a little online window shopping -- Briggs makes a 21" expander that looks really nice. I know that for LHR I can't use the expander, but for other travel it's great. Here's the link:
