Will "normal" 22" carry-on fit the sizer?

I have not been into LHR since the two bag limit was changed. I saw the comment below in another forum and wondered what advice constant LHR travelers would have -- will my Briggs & Riley standard 22" fit in the sizer if not packed too full (no expander), or should I pick up a 20" for LHR transits?

It was nowhere near fitting inside the carry-on frame used at security to check baggage sizes, so I'd probably recommend a 20" as you're less likely to be told to check it.
Thanks.
