I took advantage of this trip last month and it was definitely worth it. I stayed in the Vacation Club property, with a gorgeous waterfront room. There's a shuttle to the hotel next door, so it's easy to go over there for the restaurants/pools/whatever, though the condo side also has its own. There is construction going on but I honestly only heard it the one day I was down on Evening Star beach. Morningstar Beach around the corner doesn't have any construction noise at all, and I don't recall hearing anything in my condo either.
Definitely get over to St. John; and I hear the nearby British Virgin Islands are worth visiting as well. (But you'll need your passport for them.)
The sales presentation wasn't bad; and I believe they are always scheduled for one day before your departure. 10,000 rewards points are yours for sitting through it.
My only complaint had to do with trying to coordinate a frequent flyer miles flight (US Airways) and the condo reservation. Ultimately, there was no combination of dates that would work for the condo, the flight, and my life, so I paid for the airfare instead of getting the ultimate cheap vacation and not having to pay the air for this trip. Oh well. It was still worth it. What a beautiful place (meaning both the USVI and the condos).
