Spotwelder is correct, over the last month or so the approaches have definitely been from the east, so the people of Winsdor and Maidenhead are experiencing the steady hum you mention.
Also given you're hearing the LCY inbounds, their approach pattern almost always involves approaching south London from the east, and doing a big U-turn to the right, over Clapham and the City.
