The weather patterns have been biased towards approaches onto 09 recently rather than the 27 direction which brings them in over Clapham. There may have been more "continuous descent approaches" in use which might mean that they are not turning over Clapham but I am not sure exactly where you are in relation to the flightpath for 27L
Today is reassuringly 26 at LGW so it looks like your noise might return. Also, over time, you might just be getting used to it and now it is not noticed.
At least one other BAEC board regular will be able to give you a more precise answer.
