To take the advantage of double mile promotion, I booked a reservation on Sat. Jan.11 from JFK to SIN departing on Jan. 18.
Considering the better upgrade chance and the 10-segment limit, I selected UA800 JFK-NRT and UA 881 NRT-SIN.
Since the day I made the reservation, both segments had been on the priority waitlist. Till the night before departure, I called the 1K desk and was told that 2 revenue C-class seats were still open and 16 people were on the waitlist for flight UA800 while the second segment upgrade had been cleared. They told me that hopefully some passengers with C tickets would not show up and my request might be cleared at the chek-in counter or the gate. It turned out that my upgrade was not cleared when I checked in and half an hour before departure a GA announced that both F and C class were full and no upgrade could be done.
Anyone else here had upgrade experience with UA800? Is it always so difficult?
