Your beef seems to be that UA isn't sending out letters detailing what it takes to receive a UGS invitation. Yet, in another post in this thread, you lament that UA is not being discreet regarding the program. Finally, you complain that this means the 1K program has changed and that UA is being dishonest. Let me know if I've misunderstood as this is how I currently understand your position.

First, invitation only programs are not programs that individuals or companies would normally announce details to the public. Many businesses have very discreet ways of recognizing their high revenue clients while also recognizing ( in a different way) their frequent customers. They are not neccesarily one in the same. Restaurants and casinos come to mind.

Second, the Mileage Plus program is unchanged. I imagine, although I don't know, that a system or local VIP always received extra perks. No big deal in my book.

Finally, I imagine, although again I don't know, that many of the UGS VIPs are already traveling on business or first fares and really aren't likely to impact me for upgrades, etc...
