Spent 3 days in SL 10 days ago: 1 night in Colombo and 2 in Kandy. Had no particular safety concerns in either city. The latter had quite a few obvious tourists. Went to Sigiriya, which is close to Tamil-controlled territory, but did not feel at all endangered there either.
Overall, SL felt no more dangerous than Egypt.
Going back in 3 weeks for a 4 hour CMB transit.
