Of course, it all depends on the TSO that you encounter. If the first-line TSO decides that it's not going and the supervisor backs them up, it doesn't matter WHAT you have. "...Do you want to fly today?..."
The reality is (IMHO) that if you pass a "kippie bag" through with your "high threat" items through in the bin, they are probably not going to call for a bag check for a container that's not obviously shampoo, toothpaste etc (the high threat items)...if they see it at all. Remember, they can't even spot real threat items most of the time.
I always fly with a CPAP (breathing machine) and as such, I never even bother to use a "kippie bag". The CPAP always attracts their attention, and so my very limited supply of other potential contraband never gets called out for a bag check.
