I'm not following you. I don't see any requirement that you use some special code that may drive up the cost; to the contrary, all you apparently need to do is credit your hotel stay and car rentals to your Rapid Rewards account.
If you're going to travel anyway and plan on renting a car or staying at a hotel, this promotion may net you some extra credits without costing you an extra dime.
