You hit on a good analogy - auto repair has vastly different price points and vastly different quality levels - and the two don't always go hand in hand. But how can you call any of it rape? It's consumer choice. And the choice is to buy something else.

Corporate rape truly only exists when a true monompoly (or oligopoly) says "it's our way or the highway" - Microsoft does that, the government does that with taxes and fees, I'm sure there are other companies that do it.

Here in the Bay area the fee for the Golden Gate Bridge is going up to $7 - that's true rape because you have no choice - it's the only way from Marin into San Francisco. There is NO option.

What US is doing isn't rape - you can take it or leave it - you can fly someone else or connect on US and pay less - there are options and your option is to say "NO" to the high fare and book something else - by definition if you agree to pay their fare you're not being raped because you COULD have said no and had options - no one is FORCING you to buy the fare.
