Funnily, the fare to Rome is similar to the BDL-PHL fare. It really IS a ridiculous fare - I just defend US' right to be ridiculous.
The only company that I am aware of with a "ridiculous" pricing policy that seems to be doing OK is Microsoft.

Maybe the oil companies too.
