Probably has to do with BA fuel surcharges having been recently hiked up GBP 30 per direction so it's GBP 218 (or so) R/T.

You could also have a look if LHR-SEA-SFO is offered (with SEA-SFO on an AS codeshare) or LHR-AMS-SFO (on KL). Try booking at klm.com (your only choice of airline site from the U.K. unless you can get the NWA.com site to accept your CC) though that may not be the cheapest.
